PYP Curriculum
The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a student-centred educational framework for children aged 3–12. It is grounded in the belief that students are active agents of their own learning and valued partners in the learning process. The PYP prioritises people and relationships, fostering a strong and inclusive learning community.
Through inquiry-based learning, students develop initiative, responsibility, and ownership of their learning. By reflecting on their experiences, PYP students build knowledge, deepen conceptual understanding, develop key skills, and embody the attributes of the IB Learner Profile, enabling them to make a positive difference in their own lives, their communities, and the wider world.
The PYP focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both within the classroom and beyond. Learning is organised around six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, explored through six subject areas and supported by Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills.

How the PYP Works at KAS
At KAS, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) offers a dynamic, transdisciplinary approach to learning that connects knowledge, skills, concepts, and personal development. Learning experiences are authentic, meaningful, and relevant to students’ lives.
Our collaboratively developed programme of inquiry reflects the unique context of our school community. Learning is organised around six transdisciplinary themes that guide students to explore big ideas and real-world issues:
These themes encourage students to make connections across subject areas and to see learning as an integrated whole rather than isolated disciplines.
Through inquiry, reflection, and action, students develop conceptual understanding, essential skills, and the attributes of the IB Learner Profile. The flexible nature of the PYP allows space for student curiosity, emerging ideas, and unexpected learning pathways, empowering learners to take meaningful action in their communities and the wider world.
