About PYP

About PYP

At KAS, we offer an inquiry-based, transdisciplinary curriculum for our PYP learners (KG–Grade 5) that develops deep conceptual understanding and nurtures caring, compassionate, and lifelong learners.

KAS provides transformative learning experiences for students, teachers, and the wider school community. We are committed to implementing best educational practices with both local and global relevance, supporting young learners to confidently navigate the challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Aligned with the IB philosophy, our PYP students are encouraged to explore diverse perspectives, values, and traditions while developing a strong sense of identity and pride in their cultural heritage. KAS offers a supportive and challenging learning environment that empowers students to become responsible, reflective, and independent learners.

Benefits of the Primary Years Programme (PYP)

Elementary students in the Primary Years Programme (PYP) benefit from a rich, inquiry-based and concept-driven curriculum that places them at the center of their learning.
Through PYP, students:
  • Learn through inquiry by asking questions, exploring ideas and sharing their thinking with peers, becoming active and engaged learners.
  • Apply knowledge and skills across subject areas, making meaningful connections to real-life issues and contexts.
  • Develop knowledge, conceptual understanding, skills, and the attributes of the IB Learner Profile, empowering them to make a positive difference in their own lives, their communities and the wider world.
  • Learn through differentiated experiences that cater to a range of abilities, interests and learning styles.
  • Build respect for themselves and others, develop international-mindedness and collaborate with others toward shared goals while taking meaningful action for positive change.

By developing the attributes of the IB Learner Profile, students also learn how to demonstrate respect for themselves and others, develop international-mindedness by working with others for a shared purpose and take positive action for change.

PYP Curriculum

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside.

The pillars of the PYP curriculum framework

The transdisciplinary model extends across all three pillars of the PYP curriculum framework—the learnerlearning and teaching, and the learning community.

  • The learner: describes the outcomes for individual students and the outcomes they seek for themselves (what is learning?)
  • Learning and teaching: articulates the distinctive features of learning and teaching (how best to support learners?)
  • The learning community: emphasises the importance of the social outcomes of learning and the role that IB communities play in achieving these outcomes (who facilitates learning and teaching?).
